Choose Back In Balance Chiropractic

Picture
Thank you for visiting Back In Balance Chiropractic. I'm Dr. Carla Spinelli. My practice is located in the quaint shopping village at Buckingham Green. I've proudly treated patients from the Buckingham, Doylestown, Furlong, Jamison, New Hope, Warminster, Warrington and Warwick areas for two decades.

When not working I enjoy cooking, gardening, playing with my dog, Vincent and spending time in Philadelphia.

Chiropractic treatment styles vary greatly. My philosophy is that people do best when combining traditional medicine with complementary care. Hence, I don't consider myself a replacement to your medical doctor. I prefer a collaborative approach where health care practitioners work as a team.

Work with me to help your body heal quickly so you can get back to doing what you love and enjoying life on your terms!

You're in control. Get the treatment your body craves.

Choose from the following treatment options:
  1. Chiropractic adjustment: always done gently and carefully. Helps stuck, painful joints move freely again
  2. Electric muscle stimulation, hot moist pack & mechanical massager: relaxes tight muscles, increases blood flow & reduces pain
  3. Trigger point therapy, massage (clothed) & choice of relaxing aromatherapy neck massage: decreases painful "knots" in muscles, increases blood flow & reduces emotional & physical stress
  4. Passive stretches for neck, back, buttocks and legs: while you relax muscles are gently stretched to ease tension and restore flexibility.
  5. You'll receive a home stretching program designed specifically for you and with written directions and videos so you'll be confident you're doing them correctly.
  6. New patients may choose an ergonomic evaluation for an additional fee. You'll send a picture of you sitting at your computer desk, and I'll recommend modifications to improve your set-up to help you work more comfortably.

Health is your greatest asset. Invest in it.

FAQs

What makes you different from other chiropractors?

It seems that no matter what we do or where we go, we're are rushed to make space for the next paying customer. It happens everywhere – stores, restaurants and even hospitals and health practitioners' offices. I've never subscribed to the revolving-door treatment of people.

Whether you've experience chiropractic care before or you're a newcomer, my goal is to exceed expectations. I pride myself in taking time. You can expect my undivided attention – I don't answer phone calls, double-book appointments or work with anyone besides you. You might enter my office feeling the emotional and physical weight of the world on your shoulders, and if that's so, my goal is to leave feeling lighter, relaxed and with a smile on your face. The beauty of holistic care is that
improves not only the body but also the mind and sprit.

Some chiropractors whisk each patient in, give a 10-minute treatment and rush to the next patient. They don't know why you're suffering because many don't take time to ask. You get the same treatment over and over, and while you might get relief it never seems to last. Abbreviated treatments produce short-lasting results, which is why many chiropractors expect multiple treatments per week or month. One person in this situation benefits, and it isn't the one who's in pain and hoping for relief.

When it comes to feeling better it means you and I must work as a team. I'll do my part in the office, and I'll teach you strategies to make sure relief lasts. There's lots to learn, and I love teaching because my experience has proven that people who have been educated feel better faster and stay that way for longer periods of time.

I'm proud that my patients confidently refer family and friends. I attribute it to the quality of care I give but also to the relationship I forge with each and every person.

A new trend with medical doctors is expensive concierge care which gives patients increased time, communication and availability with the doctor. At Back In Balance, you get concierge-level care without the cost.

How long do you spend with patients on each visit?

Depending on the treatments you choose, appointments range from 30-60-minutes. An initial visit takes longer because I do an examination, consult and the treatment.

How many visits will I need, and will I have to receive treatment forever?

Most patients notice improvement within 2-4 visits. At that time you'll begin receiving treatment less often. As you improve, I'll reduce treatment frequency so there are longer gaps of time between visits. I want you to come in because you know you'll feel better afterward, not because I'm forcing you to adhere to a strict schedule.

Can I see an acupuncturist, massage therapist, MD, DO or PT as well as you?

Absolutely. I believe healthcare providers should work together! I'll support your healthcare team and provide treatment that complements the care you're already receiving.

What conditions do you specialize in or enjoy treating the most?

This is a tough one to answer because anytime I can help someone feel better, I'm happy. I have a specialized table that allow me to effectively treat patients with lumbar stenosis, disc herniations, prolapses, or tears. I've successfully treated this thousands of times and am proud when my treatment helps people get out of excruciating pain. I enjoy treating hip pain and sciatica for the same reasons. I get a lot of satisfaction helping patients who have tried other types of treatment without getting relief.

How do I choose a chiropractor?

Although chiropractors have similar treatment goals, we offer different adjusting styles and modalities (any treatment besides the adjustment). In my opinion, a good chiropractor offers options to suit the needs and comfort of each patient. The office atmosphere should be clean, happy, relaxing and professional. Patients should feel comfortable enough to ask questions about their condition or treatment. Your chiropractor should act as part of your healthcare team and be happy to collaborate with your other health care practitioners.

Is chiropractic treatment safe?

Yes. Your medical history will be taken followed by an examination. By that point I've assessed whether you're an appropriate candidate for chiropractic care. I'll let you know whether I have reason to believe you should be seen by a medical doctor prior to receiving chiropractic treatment.

Whether doing things such as taking prescription medication, undergoing a medical procedure or receiving chiropractic treatment, each has underlying risks. With chiropractic care, I'm cognizant of protecting the sensitive vasculature in the neck because doing so minimizes stroke as it relates to cervical spine manipulation. This must be considered for every patient, no matter their age.

Another factor to consider is bone health and whether people have issues with demineralization (osteopenia or osteoporosis). I prefer gentle non-force adjustments because it decreases the risk of fracture. Decreased bone density isn't only reserved for older adults. Even some young, seemingly healthy people can be affected.

Real testimonials from our awesome community:

Kristi M, Pipersville:

"I started getting treatment when I was pregnant with my first child.  I had terrible neck pain and headaches.  With just one visit I felt relief.  I continued to go to every so often and eventually I was not getting the neck pain and headaches any more. I look forward to my visits as Dr. Spinelli's office atmosphere is welcoming and friendly.  Carla is knowledgeable in so many areas, and I trust her completely."

Loretta C, New Hope:

"Dr. Carla Spinelli is an extremely knowledgeable, skilled and caring chiropractor. As an example of her skill, judgment, and thoroughness; when I saw Dr. Spinelli for back pain she immediately diagnosed my need to see an orthopedic doctor.  She not only recommended one but contacted him as well as my family physician resulting in an immediate appointment for treatment of what turned out to be multiple herniated discs.  I have full confidence that with Dr. Spinelli’s chiropractic treatment I will feel great and can continue to enjoy my active lifestyle for many years. For over a decade, my personal training clients have also used Dr. Spinelli, with similar experiences."

Dave T, Doylestown:

"I enjoy outdoor sports and recreation, especially golf and jogging. Before I started going to Carla for treatment, my lower back pain could really flare up especially after a round of golf or going jogging.  After treatments I’m able to play golf or go jogging with no lasting pain or dramatic flare ups."

Jann T, Doylestown:

"I've been to chiropractors from the West Coast to the East Coast. I was just a number as a patient until I met Dr. Carla Spinelli. Back in Balance is a full care office.  What ever it is that is troubling me -headache, pain caused by stress, or a bad back, I know I can count on Dr. Spinelli to bring me back in balance. There isn’t a question that has been ignored. Using the best in chiropractic care I've received electric stimulation, a variety of stretches, massage and trigger point therapy, adjusting and much more. I can be assured that I will receive full and caring treatment. Never a rushed appointment!  I'm very happy of the continuing chiropractic education that Carla has done. She truly cares. Back In Balance is a perfect name for Dr. Spinelli’s office."

Alison S, Doylestown:

"I've suffered from migraines for many years. By timing my chiropractic treatment, I'm able to greatly lessen the severity and duration of this pain. I would experience throbbing pain in my head, as well as extremely tight muscles in my neck. I was excited about attending a concert in Philadelphia, but I had a headache and tight neck and shoulder muscles. Dr. Spinelli adjusted me and then applied Kinesio Tape. I was able to enjoy the concert later that night. Life does not stop for migraines.  Now I don't have to."

Marcia C, Doylestown:

"Dr. Spinelli is a wonderful diagnostician. She diagnosed me with sciatica and helped to figure out what caused it in the first place. With her counseling, I changed my work out routine so as not to injure myself again. The treatment Dr. Spinelli administered was comprehensive including electric muscle stimulation, trigger point therapy, Flexion-Distraction adjustments, and stretching. As a result of her excellent care, I recovered rapidly!"

Deborah B, Doylestown:

"As a dressage rider, I need to make sure that I'm able to ride relaxed and without tension in my shoulders and lower back; this is essential to my teammate, my lovely 17-year-old mare, to be able to move freely. Dr. Spinelli has helped me to maintain pain free mobility, especially in my low back. The care she provides and attention to understanding the needs of my riding, including providing stretching exercises I can do on my own between visits, is a restorative benefit to my overall wellness. Most importantly, I can enjoy consistent work with my horses!"

Jenny H, Ottsville:

"Aside from Carla’s professionalism and experience, her bubbly, outgoing personality has always made me feel comfortable while getting an adjustment. The office space is clean and inviting.  I have called her on many occasions for a last minute ‘tune up’ before traveling or before Irish step dancing. Carla is accommodating and gets me in as quickly as possible to fit my busy schedule. Doing Irish dance can take its toll on my already chronic hip issues;  I know I will always feel ‘right’ after I leave an appointment so that I can go on with my life and not worry about ailments."

Jodi H, Warminster:

"I was having terrible back pains during the end of my second trimester and it was hard to sleep and do daily functions. Family members suggested I call Dr. Carla Spinelli since she had worked on them. I had never been to a chiropractor before so I was nervous, especially being pregnant. Making that phone call and going in for an appointment was the best decision I could have made. Carla explained exactly what she would be doing and she worked wonders on my back. I continued to see her until I was about 8 months pregnant. I always felt much better after leaving her and looked forward to my next appointment. I would highly recommend Carla Spinelli if you are pregnant and having back pain. She's the best!"

What conditions do you treat?

Bulged or herniated discs

Unhealthy disc symptoms include (but are not limited to): back or neck pain, muscle spasm, sciatica, tingling, numbness and pain in the arms/hands or legs/feet, and muscular weakness. Chiropractic techniques such as Flexion-Distraction or traction minimizes compression of nerves that are inflamed. Benefits of treatment include pain reduction and decreased symptoms in the arms/hands or legs/feet. I've had excellent results relieving muscle spasm, sciatica and back pain.

Neck, mid back & low back pain

Spinal pain can be caused by disc or joint pathology, spinal joints that are not moving as well as they should, muscular weakness, overly tight muscles in the neck or upper back, poor posture, repetitive use injury and/or trauma. The treatment I provide gently restores motion to joints and alleviates tension in muscles. You will feel less pain,  improved flexibility and enjoy greater range of motion.

Hip & buttock pain

Hip pain can be caused by several factors. A thorough exam and medical history reveals whether your pain arises from conditions such as (but not limited to) arthritis, bursitis, muscular tension or sprains/strains. The treatment I perform for hip pain focuses on decreasing tension in the capsule that surrounds the joint as well as to relax and elongate muscles that are integral in proper range of motion for the hip.

Arthritis

Arthritis can occur in any joint. There are several types of arthritis, and the one that chiropractors deal with most often is osteoarthritis, a.k.a. degenerative joint disease. Chiropractic care can't reverse the effects of arthritis, but I offer several types of treatment to minimize symptoms of pain, swelling and stiffness. My treatment is an excellent option to try before getting other invasive options.

Trauma

When patients are involved in car accidents or slip & fall injuries, pain can be sudden or increase gradually. Many patients are assessed by paramedics and E.R. doctors prior to getting chiropractic treatment; of those patients most have had diagnostic studies such as a CT Scan or X-Rays taken of the area that was injured. Injury patients respond well to chiropractic care. My initial treatment goal is to decrease your symptoms of pain and to restore range of motion. Soon thereafter I'll transition into teaching you a home stretching program, and lastly I'll incorporate physiotherapy exercises to strengthen and stabilize the areas that were injured.

Sports injuries

Staying active and strong lends itself to enjoying a healthy lifestyle. Sometimes athletes are sidelined by injury. Chiropractic care alleviates pain and loss of range of motion and helps to get you back in the game, no matter what your sport is. Treatment focuses on reducing pain and improving range of motion. I'll teach you how to effectively warm-up, stretch and strengthen so as to avoid further injury or chronic re-exacerbation.

Sciatica

This common occurrence can be caused by a multitude of reasons. A thorough exam and medical history will reveal the cause of the sciatica. Pain can be excruciating making it difficult to do most any activity. My treatment focuses on the area that is causing the leg pain. The ultimate goal of treatment is to get the leg pain to remit as well as any residual buttock or low back pain. Patients who have experienced sciatica are extremely thankful when it goes away and they can get back to doing the activities they enjoy.

Pregnancy pain

Women's bodies prepare for pregnancy in amazing ways. With ligamentous laxity comes the probability for joint and muscle pain. The hips, lower back, buttocks, and legs are the most susceptible areas and where my chiropractic treatment is focused. My goal is to help women get through their pregnancy without developing sciatica, a common pregnancy-related symptom. Patients are thrilled with the benefits they receive with chiropractic care - less pain and discomfort during pregnancy and often a shorter, more comfortable birthing process even for first-time pregnancies!

Headaches

Headaches are one of the most common symptoms I treat. My treatment focuses attention to tight muscles in the mid back and neck. After they're relaxed, I'll  check to see that the joints in the neck are moving normally. I've treated cluster, tension and migraine headaches with excellent results.
